Welcome to March!

We are now officially at the end of Winter with the Spring equinox arriving on 20th March.  The equinox is also called the Vernal equinox, from the Latin venare – to bloom – in recognition that, in the Northern hemisphere, this is the time of the year when the trees unfurl their leaves and the flowers bud.

There is much to be hopeful about in this season of fertility and re-birth.  Indeed, research has shown IVF fertilization rates to be highest in the Spring and epidemiologists have suggested that a boost in fertility is related to changing light patterns at this time of year and the consequent effects on neurons in the brain leading to the stimulation of eggs within the ovaries.

It can, however, also be a painful time as Mothering Sunday comes around again in the UK.  It is good to think ahead about it and have a bit of a ‘game-plan’.  This year is going to be different for many of us and it may provide you with the perfect excuse to step away from family celebrations if they are too painful for you.

It is totally OK to put yourself first for once.

You might want to draw on the abundance of nature at this time and buy a beautiful bunch of flowers to remind yourself of who you are blossoming into.

Whatever you do make sure that you feel special this month – because you are.

To the woman who grieves for her mother

To the woman who grieves for her child

To the woman who longs to be a mum

You are loved xxx
