In these strange times we can still take comfort in the cycles of nature. In the last week, it has been a real joy to see the snow drops appearing in my garden and to know that lighter days are on the way!
In the wheel of the year February sees Winter turning into Spring and the festival of Imbolc on 2nd February is all about re-birth and the returning of the sun!
Imbolc is the Celtic celebration of the birth of the first lambs and, in pagan tradition, fresh milk is poured onto the ground as a tribute to Mother Earth and to request fertility for the coming season. On my fertility journey I enacted my own, early-morning Imbolc milk ritual in a beautiful field near to my home – but I totally understand that you might prefer something that you can perform inside!
Purification and cleansing rituals are especially appropriate at this time of year – welcoming back the light and the opportunity for a fresh start – and you might want to have your own purification bath.
Imbolc Purification Bath
- 1 Cup of Epsom Salts
- Geranium Essential Oil (known for balancing hormones and bringing calm)
- Optional: 1 tsp of lavender buds
- Optional: 1 tbsp of dried orange peel or lemon peel
- 1 candle
Light the candle and combine the oils into the epsom salts – this helps the oil merge with your bath. You can also put the lavender buds and orange peel in a cloth bag and hang over the running water which allows you to get all the benefits of the herbs without clogging up the plug!
Relax in the warm bath and allow it to purify and refresh you.
