Orange is the new black

Orange has been the ‘it’ colour in 2017 and it makes a lot of sense. In the face of so much terror and dread in the world, a pop of uplifting colour is most welcome. Orange is often connected with warmth, creativity and joy  – Frank Sinatra is quoted as saying that orange is the happiest colour – but did you know that orange can help with your fertility too?

The colour orange is said to be related to the sacral chakra (energy centre) situated in the lower abdomen. The sacral chakra covers all the reproductive organs: uterus, ovaries and testes and attending to the energy in this area can boost your fertility by maximising the health of those organs and creating flow. As well as being the seat of fertility physiologically, the sacral chakra is also important emotionally as it is associated with passion in all senses of the word. The sacral chakra is seen as the root of our emotions and primal instincts and this is key in the fertility journey which is, let’s face it, just one big emotional roller coaster! Your sacral chakra is basically the driving seat of desire and activating it can turbo-boost your ability to go get what you want.

“That all sounds brilliant”, you say, “so how do I get activated”?!

Well, you can get your chakras cleansed or rebalanced by a professional practitioner but a really simple place to start is by injecting some colour into your life – and, for the sacral chakra, orange is your hue!

Colour therapy has been around for thousands of years – the Atlanteans use different coloured rooms in their temples to heal specific illnesses and the Ancient Egyptians used coloured gemstones in their therapies. In your own personal orange colour therapy you might think of introducing colour through objects in your home, the clothes that you wear or even your food!

Colours used in the home can be really beneficial as they literally surround us.

This doesn’t mean that you have to paint all your rooms Egyptian Sunrise(!) you might choose to have a strategically placed rug or vase. I have just bought an orange noticeboard in the hope that it will make my endless to-do lists look fun!! Orange is the colour of play and togetherness and so is great in any social or creative areas. It isn’t however great for bedrooms as it doesn’t really promote restful vibes!

Wearing orange has been totally on trend this year but what about when fashion changes?

Again, you don’t have to go all out in an orange kaftan! You might have a delicate orange pendant or do as I did and have orange knickers! I bought my orange pants particularly for my IVF process and I loved them! Not only were they great for visualising warming up my sacral chakra they were my cheeky secret that made me laugh on egg transfer day – a time that the lols weren’t exactly flowing!

You might also eat orange!

Oranges are one of the best sources of vitamin C which has been proved to reduce stress on the ovaries.  They’re also chock-a-block with minerals such as calcium, potassium and folate—a B vitamin that can help you get pregnant by regulating ovulation and producing a healthy environment for eggs.

So, what’s not to love?!  As a well-known mobile phone network say “The Future is Bright, The Future is Orange!”

p.s. My Instagram account @fertileorange has a little pop of orange-ness throughout the week. It would be lovely to see you there!
